SNP commits to having an Active School Week (#ASW)/Healthy Eating Week every year in May/June. Seán from Health Matters, together with his team, run the activities from Mon-Thurs and we finish off the week with Sports Day on the Friday. All activities are planned so that they are accessible by all pupils. During #ASW tracksuits are worn by all staff and pupils alike. Each class gets two activity sessions with Seán separate from their 60 minutes of PE plus many other activities during the week such as DEAD (Drop Everything And Dance), 10@10, Go Noodle, Bizzy Breaks, Cosmic Yoga etc.
Physical activity tasks are given as homework during this week. On the Thursday afternoon the entire school participates in one giant Zumba class up on the pitch which is so much fun. A Pupils vs. Teachers game of rounders is held on the Friday afternoon, much to the delight of the entire school. Parents attend Sports Day and are encouraged to join in on the rounders game.
Local amenities such as St. Enda’s Park and Glendoher Park are visited during #ASW. These outings are used in a cross-curricular way i.e. a tour of Pearse Museum and Nature Room. However, this will not be possible this year due to it being temporarily closed.
Fresh fruit, kindly donated by Total Produce, is distributed to every pupil in the school during the week and a talk about Nutrition and Healthy Eating is given by Seán from Health Matters to each class.
Last year due to Covid we organised an Active Home Week

Active School Week 2021
Health Matters seeks to develop in the student the knowledge and understanding
which will enable him/her to make the choice of a healthy lifestyle through physical
activity and a balanced diet.
The activities will be delivered to the kids through a variety of fun games that can be
replicated at home and can be played alone or with friends and family. Each game
would help the child to develop their hand eye coordination, balance, mobility,
flexibility, strength, speed, endurance, cognitive function, health and most
importantly develop and enjoyment for exercise.
On completion of the programme each student will have an individual responsibility
for good health along with a sense of wellbeing.
Please see below some of the games we will play in the school.

Active School Week 2021
We had a fantastic Active School Week 2021, with the sun shining all week. Thanks to Aoife, who apart from class Zumba lessons, did a huge Zumba session with the Junior end of the school ,followed by the Senior end.
The children had a brilliant week with Séan from Health Matters, playing fun games and activities.
Active Week was topped off with the raising of our recently awarded Active Flag.....Well done to everyone who contributed to us getting this award.
