PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Physical Activity is the promotion and engagement of exercise and movement in addition to the 60 minute per week timetabled curriculum subject of Physical Education. Scoil Naomh Pádraig actively promotes the message that children require 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. In Scoil Naomh Pádraig, we have been extremely busy as we have engaged in a wide variety of different programmes, ideas and initiatives which have inspired the children to become more active.

Do your talking while you’re walking:
Scoil Naomh Pádraig, promotes the full range of fundamental movement skills during break times and pupils are encouraged to run and play. We have two daily playground breaks and our school yard is zoned and marked to allow children to run freely among the other children in their class but without overlapping with another class. These zones are there due to COVID-19 recommendations. During the Summer term classes move to the fields where they have an even greater opportunity to run and play.
All pupils have engaged in an extended classroom or yard based physical activity break during designated weeks of the year while many classes have been incorporating these breaks into regular days throughout the year. Our school has agreed an Active School Flag slogan which is
"Have Fun, Be Cool ,Be an Active School"
Our school incorporates physical activity into school calendar events as we hold different seasonal activities and events.
Active breaks and wet day activities:
Everyday we try as much as possible to get everyone up and moving throughout
the school day. We have active breaks with equipment laid out on the yards .We
encourage the pupils to’ Do Your Talking as You’re Walking’ We also ensure
the pupils get physical activity in their classrooms especially on rainy days.
Below is a list of activities that we do in the classroom and outside:

Playground Pals:
Our 6th class girls have been great leaders for our younger classes, Junior Infants and Senior infants. Unfortunately, this year due to COVID-19 we have had to cut our playground leaders. Hopefully, we will be able to take the initiative up again next year and this time spread it out over the junior and senior classes too. We hope to set up sectioned areas in the playgrounds for playground leaders to help other classes in different games and activities during their lunch break
