Sport and physical education play a big role in school life in SNP. Through the PE curriculum and other games and activities that are on offer here, pupils are introduced to a wide range of sports, learn to be part of a team, and gain confidence in their physical and sporting abilities.

Through PE and extra sporting opportunities, we aim to help pupils to lead full, active and healthy lives. We promote enjoyment of, and positive attitudes towards, physical activity thus preparing our pupils for active and purposeful use of leisure time.

Alongside their structured PE classes, our pupils in SNP are offered many more opportunities to engage in physical sporting activities and we have been delighted to have been awarded the Active School Flag.

Scoil Naomh Pádraig participates in the Cumann na mBunscol Dublin football league, camogie league and athletics, and have enjoyed memorable days out in Croke Park and the National Athletics Stadium!

Football, camogie and athletics training is provided to many classes by volunteer coaches and teachers, both before and after school. Our older classes are also afforded the opportunity to partake in soccer and basketball training by volunteer teachers. Every year we celebrate Active Week in June and our children enjoy many extra physical activities during this week such as Zumba, Dance Fitness and games. Our annual Sports Day is another important date in our school calendar and it is also celebrated at all class levels in June every year.

Linking with our community is most important to us here in SNP and we are very fortunate to have Ballyboden St. Enda’s GAA Club provide in-school coaching at various times during the school year for both camogie and football, which incorporate the fundamental movement skills too. They work over a period of weeks with some classes. Many of our pupils are also members of local GAA clubs and benefit from training there. We are very proud of the strong relationship between the clubs and our school and we are very grateful for the dedication and commitment of the coaches. We also link in with other clubs, including Éanna Basketball, Stillorgan-Rathfarnham RFC, Leister Celtic FC and the Castle Golfclub.

In addition, we are linked with Templeogue Swimming Pool, where our pupils from 3rd-6th Class partake in swimming lessons as part of the Aquatics strand of the curriculum.

Overall, in SNP the emphasis in PE, Games and Sport is on participation and enjoyment (with some healthy competition too!).
