Wellbeing in Scoil Naomh Pádraig is developed through curricular subjects including SPHE, PE and the arts. Wellbeing is also woven through our everyday interactions, the decisions we make and how we treat one another. We are an inclusive school and our aim is to promote the wellbeing of all of our pupils, colleagues and school community. Wellbeing is at the core of our school rules too, namely:
Respect Myself
Respect Others
Respect our School
All classes from Junior Infants to 6th Class engage in the Weaving Well-being Programme. This programme gives children the opportunity to weave positivity into their daily lives through a range of activities in a variety of areas. These areas include:
- Identifying and using their authentic character strengths
- Boosting positive emotions
- Developing and nurturing positive relationships and connections
- Building practical resilience skills (including mindfulness) and
- Developing self-efficacy through empowering beliefs.
Our Approach
We believe that children thrive when they are happy and healthy, spiritually, mentally and physically. We offer a high level of pastoral care to our pupils, celebrating their strengths whilst developing their social and emotional resilience. This is achieved in partnership with parents/guardians.
Our core values are highlighted regularly, we model these values to our pupils, and we encourage them to live by them. These values include kindness and respect towards others, contributing to our community, including all, and doing our very best.
Wellbeing is at the core of our policies, such as our Anti-Bullying Policy and our Code of Conduct. We recognise that prevention of behaviours that impact negatively on others’ wellbeing is a priority. We work to nurture relationships, to build self-esteem and to restore relationships if needed.
Underpinning our development of wellbeing is the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice. Through this framework, we approach the development of wellbeing within 4 main areas, namely: our culture, our curriculum, our relationships & partnerships and our policy & planning.
The positive and supportive culture that exists in Scoil Naomh Pádraig exists due to the concerted effort of all members of our school community. Nurturing and protecting it is of huge importance to us all.
